  • What is Kansas E-Tags?
    The Kansas E-Tags system will enable citizens to renew their vehicle registration electronically online. The Internet system was part of a customer service enhancement for the citizens of Kansas.
  • Am I eligible to renew electronically?
    You must have:
    • Vehicle registration that is due for renewal but not expired;
    • Access to the Internet;
    • Your renewal notice with an alpha numeric Personal Identification Number (PIN), for each vehicle you wish to renew; and
    • Your insurance provider must be an information-sharing partner with the Division of Vehicles.
  • Will I still be able to renew in person or by mail, if I choose?
    Yes, these renewal options will still be available for all customers.
  • Can everyone renew electronically?
    If your vehicle is eligible for online renewal, you will receive an alpha numeric PIN on your renewal notice.
  • I bought a new vehicle. Can I register it online?
    No, only "simple" renewal transactions can be completed electronically. To register a vehicle that is new to you, please contact your local county treasurer's office. Kansas County Treasurer's Association.
  • I noticed that some of the information printed on my renewal notice is incorrect. How can I get this corrected?
    Corrections usually require a new application to be completed at your local county treasurer's office. For vehicles you no longer own, notify your local county treasurer's office. Kansas County Treasurer's Association.
  • How soon will I get my decal or plate and official registration receipt after renewing electronically?
    Your official receipt and plate or decals will be mailed within 10 days from your local county treasurer's office.
  • Can I renew electronically if I have a change of address?
    No, not at this time, Kansas E-Tags allows for simple renewals only.
  • Is my vehicle registration legally renewed after completing the electronic transaction?
    Renewing your vehicle registration early is always the best course of action. During the electronic transaction, your renewal application will be accepted, just as if it were mailed in. If your vehicle registration expires before you receive your registration receipt and decal by mail, please use your printed receipt or electronic payment receipt as proof of registration for up to 10 days past the tag expiration.
  • What is the special registration fee?
    The special registration fee applies to vehicles with an Amateur Radio Operator plate.
  • Does it matter which insurance company is providing coverage to me if I want to renew on the Internet?
    Yes, only customers of insurance companies that electronically report their insurance data to the Kansas Division of Vehicles can renew electronically. Participating Insurance Companies.
  • I just tried to renew my vehicle registration electronically, and your system indicates my insurance policy has expired. I just renewed the policy and I do have insurance.
    Insurance information is received at the end of each month, and is loaded to our server the first week of the following month. In some cases, if your insurance policy expiration date is within the same month your vehicle registration expires, the updated policy information cannot be received in time to allow electronic renewal. (For example, if the vehicle registration expires on August 31st and the insurance policy expires August 19th, the data we receive from insurance companies at the end of July is loaded the first week of August. Most likely, the policy information we will have on file will indicate the policy expires on August 19th.)
  • How many vehicles can I renew within one transaction?
    The application has the ability to renew up to seven vehicles within one transaction. All vehicles must be registered within the same county.
  • Is my vehicle registration legally renewed after completing the electronic transaction?
    If your vehicle registration expires before you receive your decal and registration receipt by mail, please use your printed payment receipt or electronic payment receipt showing you have paid the current 12 month registration period while you wait to receive your decal by mail up to and including 10 days following your expiration date. You must renew online prior to your expiration date to use your payment receipt as proof of current registration.
  • I don't have my renewal notice and can't locate my PIN. What can I do?
    Please visit ksrevenue.org/PrintRenewals enter your license plate number and plate type from the drop down box and print a duplicate copy. Follow the directions on the renewal form to access KSWebTags. The print renewal application is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Personal Identification Number (PIN) Information

  • What is a Personal Identification Number (PIN) and how do I get one?
    A Personal Identification Number (PIN) is assigned to only those vehicle types that are eligible to renew electronically. If your vehicle is eligible to renew electronically, an alpha numeric Personal Identification Number (PIN) will be assigned to each vehicle on your renewal notice and serves as a unique identifier to retrieve your vehicle renewal information. PINs are assigned to all vehicle types that are eligible to renew electronically, whether insurance information is available or not. (If your vehicle has a PIN, insurance information may or may not be available for your vehicle.) Some vehicles listed on your renewal notice will have a PIN, while other registration types are not eligible to renew electronically.

    A vehicle's eligibility is determined prior to mailing the notice. Personal Identification Numbers cannot be assigned after the renewal notices have been prepared.

Portal Processing Fee Information

  • If I renew more than one vehicle, how is the portal processing fee calculated?
    The portal processing fee is calculated based on the overall transaction total, whether it's one or more vehicles.
  • What is included in the Kansas.gov price?
    The price of items purchased through this service includes funds to develop, maintain and enhance the State of Kansas' Web portal, Kansas.gov.
  • What payment methods are accepted?
    Kansas.gov Online Payments accepts e-check and American Express, Discover, Master and Visa or Echeck.
  • Where does the Authorization Number come from?
    The online payment processor (Kansas.gov) assigns an authorization number for each online transaction.

Your Personal Information

  • Is my vehicle information and payment information protected?
    The State of Kansas is dedicated to providing the highest level of security possible for customers that use our website. We use Verisign's secure payment services to encrypt your credit card number before it ever leaves your computer. Your credit card information is kept confidential within the system during and after the renewal process.
  • What is the Cardholder's Zip Code used for?
    Entering the five digit zip code associated with your credit card account is a security feature to authenticate the transaction.
  • Why is my phone number requested?
    Your local county treasurer's office may contact you regarding any problems with this online transaction. It is our policy not to use the telephone number for any other purpose.

Buttons and Functions

  • What is the "View Detail" feature?
    The view detail feature displays all the specific vehicle information and associated fees for the vehicle you are renewing.
  • What is the "Renew Another" feature?
    If you wish to renew additional vehicles, click the "Renew Another" button and enter the PIN and Vehicle Year. This will add the vehicle to your online shopping cart.
  • What is the "Checkout" feature?
    Once you have identified the vehicle(s) you wish to renew, click the "Checkout" button to proceed to the payment information screen.
  • What is the "Cancel" button for?
    Clicking the "Cancel" button will immediately clear any confidential information and end the session.
  • What is the "View Cart" feature for?
    Click the "View Cart" button to return to the shopping cart and view the itemized list of vehicles and fees to be renewed.
  • How do I remove a vehicle from the shopping cart?
    Click the trash can symbol in the "Remove" column to remove the vehicle from the online shopping cart.
  • Does the "Submit Payment" feature immediately transmit my payment information?
    Once you click the "Submit Payment" button, you will receive a confirmation message asking if you wish to proceed. Once you confirm, your payment information is immediately transmitted for processing. You should receive a confirmation number within one minute from the online payment processor. Please print or record the confirmation number for your records.
