Kansas Commercial Driver's License Holder Medical Self Certification

Please be advised, effective 6/2/2025, Kansas will no longer be able to manually enter your medical examiner’s certificate (MEC). The information must come electronically from the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners (NR).

Medical examiners are allowed until the next day at midnight to enter the MEC into NR so please ensure you obtain a new MEC prior to the expiration of your current one to prevent the downgrade of your commercial driving privileges.

This site will be updated to allow current Catgory 2, Excepted Interstate drivers to change to Category 1, Non-Excepted Interstate if the MEC has been received from NR. If you are currently Category 1, Non-Excepted Interstate and your MEC needs to be updated, you must email KDOR_Medical.Certification@ks.gov or visit a full-service exam office to request a manual search of NR for your MEC

The Kansas Division of Vehicles requires all CDL holders to comply with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulation 49 CFR Section 383.71(b)(1), medical self-certification requirements. If you have certified to category 1, Non-Excepted Interstate, you are required to maintain a current medical examiner’s certificate (MEC).

Effective 6/2/2025, if you are currently certified as Category 1 – Non-Excepted Interstate Kansas will electronically receive your MEC from the National Registry of Certified Medical Examiners once the information has been submitted by the medical examiner and validated with the Kansas record.

Using this online service, you may only switch between Category 1 Non-Excepted Interstate and Category 2 Excepted Interstate.

If you were seen by a medical examiner prior to 6/2/2025 and your MEC issue/expiration date haven’t been updated, please email KDOR_Medical.Certification@ks.gov with the Drivers First Name, Last Name and Driver License Number for assistance with locating the updated update MEC.

You may not change to Category 1 Non-Excepted Interstate using this service if you:
• Have a restriction for an SPE or accompanied waiver/exemption.
- You must visit a full-service exam office to have a “V” restriction added to your credential.
• Are currently certified as Category 3 Non-Excepted Intrastate or Category 4 Excepted Intrastate.
- If you want to change Category to a Non-Excepted Interstate, you must visit a full-service exam office to have the “K” restriction removed from your credential.

Please contact us at KDOR_Medical.Certification@ks.gov if you have any questions.
